Releasing a Philippine Eagle back to the Bislig Key Biodiversity Area (KBA)
The emergency
Releasing Philippine Eagles is an important in situ conservation method. If combined with community engagement and threat abatement, released eagles can help to support population recovery. However, the release of animals is often time-sensitive. Funding was needed to support the immediate release of a male Philippine Eagle, including the training of local forest guards.
Results
A male Philippine Eagle was successfully released in May 2021. Monitoring through a GPS tag, supported by ground observations from the trained local forest guards, revealed that the bird quickly established a large territory.
